SML Movies are a series of plush and puppetry videos that share variety on SuperMarioLogan's YouTube channel. SuperMarioLogan is the most popular Super Mario plush channel from all time, with more than 1,000,000, subscribers, because of his popularity, many YouTube channels started making and filming videos that are copies of SML videos. Many examples include EpicMarioBros, NickNick1121, MrMarioFan12, GamecudeDude100, SuperMarioRichie and most notably, CoolSuperMarioBros, SML Movies started existing in 2009. These movies follows the life and adventures of Mario and Bowser Junior, there are some different plots such as Mario having adventures with his friends/roomates; Black Yoshi, Shrek, Woody, Toad, Rosalina, Tony etc. Mario and his girlfriend Rosaina taking care of Jeffy, a highly stupid retarded boy, the life of Bowser,and Bowser Junior, and a legless chef called Chef Pee Pee and Bowser Junior's friends; Joseph and Cody, and many others.

Seasons are usually renewed every year (January 1st).

Most of the videos contains the series of adult themes, toilet humor, dark humor, and popular culture references.

The show uploads on YouTube weekly (Sunday and Thursday).

Characters (2009-present)

Main Characters

Mario - the mascot of Nintendo who portrays as the video's main character.
Black Yoshi - an African-American Yoshi who is a ghetto-stereotype. He also commits crimes and constantly plays nothing but Call of Duty video games.
Shrek - a crude and short tempered fat green ogre who always loves cheesecake and using a toilet to poop.
Toad - a highly annoying and mischievous high-pitched voiced talking and rap singing toad.
Bowser - a Koopa who is a main villain, but also a main character in the video series who portrays as a middle-aged short-tempered person.
Bowser Junior - Bowser's son who is constantly bad, making messes, dumb, and a troublemaking, yet annoying spoiled brat. As of the end of the Military School series, none of this longer happens much.
Cody - One of Bowser Junior's friends who an intelligent and homosexual Magikoopa, especially with his Ken doll.
Joseph - an Koopa who's one of Bowser Junior's friends. He lives by himself in a trailer home since his parents are dead.
Chef Pee Pee - an Italian-American chef who works with Bowser and has a strong hate with Bowser Junior and his friends because he often takes care of them or he takes them to places.
Rosalina - Mario's girlfriend who is a direct replacement of Peach, Mario's original ex-girlfriend, and has her passion interest of stars.
Jeffy - a highly stupid ageless boy who got adopted and raised by Mario and Rosalina after he was been dropped in the apartment building by his real nameless mother, although Mario has a strong hate with Jeffy all because he's truly stupid which constantly ruins his life.

The main characters are often split into two groups, with episodes usually including only those characters (despite the fact that they all live in the same house), so characters in one group are rarely featured with those of the other. There have been a few crossovers, however, such as in The Fishing Trip!, Jeffy's Birthday!, and The New House!. A good comparison for this system could be the "American League" and the "National League" divisions, as presented in MLB and NFL. The two groups are defined as follows.

Group A: this group includes Mario, Black Yoshi, Shrek, Rosalina, and Jeffy.
Group B: this group includes Bowser, Bowser Junior, Chef Pee Pee, Toad, Cody, and Joseph.

Recurring Characters

The Brooklyn Guy - a person who got various jobs. including working at the fire department, a lawyer, military sargent, a cop.
Goodman - a person who, like Brooklyn Guy, got various jobs, He is also the police chief
Charleyyy - an African-American TV celebrity and comedian of his comedy program, Charleyyy and Friends, which is Bowser's only favorite.
Jackie Chu - a Chinese karate man who sometimes works as a teacher.
Margaret - an elder women who is Bowser's mother. She was born in 1815 making her the oldest person on earth.
Doofy The Dragon - a goofy, crazy, suicidal and violent anthropomorphic green dragon who is a host for his children's television show of the same name, which is Bowser Junior's only favorite. In his show, Doofy tries to brainwash kids by doing crimes and other dangerous and fatal stunts. Doofy the Dragon is a parody of Barney the Dinosaur.
Craig The Devil - a devil.
Screwball - a clown who love kids and portrays as the local town's criminal.
Hansel - a homeless middle-aged man who lives on the street.

Tony The Tiger - a anthropomorphic tiger
Woody - a hatless redneck who devours shrimps who he calls "Shrimpos".
Luigi - Mario's young but tall brother.
Mr. Pig - a piggy bank who loves doing the monkey.
Peach - a princess who's Mario's former love interest.
Thomas - Bowser Junior's favorite toy train based on a famous character from Reverend W. Awdry's The Railway Series/Thomas & Friends franchise.
Ken - Cody's favorite doll, who acts like a gay boyfriend to him.
Tyrone Calvin - An African-American male who is the father of Cody and likes to beat up people when they have been racist to him.
Patrick - A hyper boy who loves to call things "crazy"
Pink Yoshi - Black Yoshi's girlfriend
Principal Steinbeck - a highly short-tempered and violent African-American school principal.
Harold Wilfred - An elder man who can't hear properly, He is the grandfather of Mario, He still believes in World War II Nazi war criminals.
Judy - Cody's mother.
Donkey Kong (DK) - a giant brown ape with his red necktie
Diddy Kong - DK's little monkey nephew/friend.
Kirby - a homosexual anthropomorphic pink ball-like creature.
Chris the Cucumber - a loud, crazy and goofy anthropomorphic green cucumber who is a school student. Although he is based on a character Larry the Cucumber from VeggieTales.
Felipe - A Hispanic boy who is Patrick's best friend, he also loves to call things "loco" which is Spanish
The Rat - an albino rat who loves cheese and causes mischief around the house.
Emily Coleman - The sister of Patrick.

Before Logan actually started the SML Movies, Logan made some videos that act as a pre-season 1, or Season 0. This was set in the Beta Age, which preceded the Golden Age.

This is the first season of the SML Movies, there were only four in this season. These, along with Mario and Luigi's Stupid and Dumb Adventures, began the Golden Age.

Season 7 (2015) (New Filming Location, Beginning of Dork Age, Debut of Rosalina)

This season was the last to use the old house and as well as the last 'classic' SML season as only 26 episodes from this season use the old house. Several characters such as Black Yoshi, Joseph, Chef Pee Pee and Toad started to act very out of character from this season onwards, for better or for worse.This season also introduced Rosalina later in the season too. This is where the series began it's devolution.

Season 8 (2016-Present) (Another New Filming Location, Introduction of Jeffy)

As of this season, the videos became more explicit, and introduced Jeffy. This season so far has been the most critically panned season and overall worst. It has several characters such as Black Yoshi and Bowser and their personality's dramatically altered and become very unlikable. For reasons yet unknown, Logan has been force feeding fans 'Mario Torture Porn' into several plots such as Jeffy's Bad Word, Black Yoshi's Blank Check and Mario's Hobo Problem. Because of this, the series is now experiencing a Dork Age. This Season has been the most critically panned since 2011 and has some episodes that are considered some of the worst episodes since Toad is Cool, The Bird, Valentines Day, Shrek's Crappy Wish, Bowser Junior's Happy Meal and considered even worse than April Fools, Shrek's Bath Problem and the most critically panned episode before 2016, known as the drone. Characters has had major character derailment since this season, such as Black Yoshi in Black Yoshi's Blank Check. Some of the overall worst episodes that are the most critically panned are Black Yoshi's Blank Check, The Gun, Cody's Birthday, Pop Rocks and Coke, Rosalina's Parents, Bowser Junior's Game Night 5, Bowser Junior's Package, Locked Out and Jeffy's Bad Word. This season is the last season to use the apartment, and the first season to use the new house.

Reception

SML Movies has gotten generally positive feedback since it's beginning. People find the comedy funny, the characters fun and lovable, and the plots creative. YouTubers dabhdude and SML Reviewer review SML Movies and other videos of the channel, and generally gives it positive reviews.

Criticism of declining quality

People recently have been negatively reacting to recent SML Movies, and claim that Bowser, Bowser Junior, Chef Pee Pee, and other new characters such as Cody, Joseph, and the puppet characters have taken away the spotlight from classic characters such as Mario, Black Yoshi, Shrek, Woody, Mr. Pig, and Tony the Tiger, similar to how Scrappy-Doo was blamed for Scooby-Doo's decline in quality in the 1980's. And to when Hanna Barbera went under a new generation project in 1997, such as Johnny Bravo, I Am Weasel, Cow and Chicken, Dexter's Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls, taking away the classics such as; Top Cat, Tom and Jerry, Scooby Doo, Space Ghost, Wacky Races, Jabberjaw, the Funky Phantom, the Flintstones and the Banana Splits.

People have also been negatively reacting to the constant torture of Chef Pee Pee and Mario, not to mention Chef Pee Pee's insane yelling, whining, and complaining. The fans label this "Chef Pee Pee and Mario torture porn". Fans have also been complaining about the staff exaggerating the characters in newer videos; mainly Chef Pee Pee, Junior, Bowser, Toad, Shrek and Black Yoshi, similar to how Inspector Gadget's stupidity has been exaggerated in many spin-offs of his show (such as Gadget and the Gadgetinis, Inspector Gadget's Best Caper Ever, and the 2015 DHX Media series).

Logan himself actually admits he's sick of Junior as well and wants to use Mario and his friends more often, but he can't because he says it's hard to think of ideas for the other characters. People have labeled this as the Dork Age of SML.

Controversy

SML Movies have gotten controversy for adult-only themes in the videos in recent years. In early years (2009-early 2014), they got their fair balance of appropriate and inappropriate humor. In recent years, SML Movies have made jokes about more serious things such as racism, sexism, religion jokes, pedophiles, politically incorrect themes, and jokes about pop culture and serious problems such as Ebola, people often find it offensive. When Logan and his friends found out how negative people (especially Asian fans) reacted to the "Asians eat cats" joke, they decided to stop using it. SML's "fanboys" often attack people who give their opinion on an SML video with racist jokes. But 2016 was laden with controversy, with 10 videos being largely hated by fans, especially Jeffy's Bad Word!, which is the most disliked video in SML series with over 4K thumbs down.

Spinoffs

SML Movies later got multiple spinoffs.

SLL Movies

SML Movies' second spinoff was SLL Movies. It aired on SuperMarioLogan's 2nd channel SuperLuigiLogan, but was cancelled after it's only episode

SBL Plays

SBL Plays was the fourth (third if not counting the SLL Movies spinoff) spinoff to SML Movies. They (so far) have starred Brooklyn Guy who is playing video games. While in a much different style, as SBL Plays is gameplay footage while SML Movies are stories, they both use comedy, as Brooklyn Guy's comments are sarcastic making fun of video game logic.

Toad Music Videos

The Toad Music Videos is the fifth (fourth if not counting the SLL Movies spinoff) spinoff of the SML Movies series. The SML Movies Episode "SML Movie: Toad is Cool" spawned a spinoff of music videos made by Toad rapping as he becomes a rapper with his partner Ray Cheesy.

SML Specials

SML Specials is another spinoff to SML Movies. It's purpose was to only have episodes on holidays, and only had one Valentine's themed episode.

Baby Shrek

The Baby Shrek series is another spinoff from the SML Movies Series. After the episode, "SML Movie: Baby Shrek", it spawned a spinoff about Baby Shrek's childhood while being raised by Shrek. After episode 2, it got cancelled.

Black Yoshi and the Birds

Black Yoshi and the birds is another spinoff of SML Movies. After the episode, "SML Movie: The Bird", a cliffhanger was left that eventually lead to the Black Yoshi and the birds series. The series focused on the angry birds moving in with Black Yoshi after Black Yoshi killed their mom or else they would kill Black Yoshi.

Black Yoshi - Call of Duty

Black Yoshi - Call of Duty is another spinoff of SML Movies. It was a video centered on Black Yoshi playing call of duty, and having commentary. It was cancelled after one episode.

SLL Updates

SLL Updates is a spinoff of SML Movies, with Logan talking to the viewers and updating them about upcoming things, asking questions to them, or updates of his personal life.

SML Livestreams

SML Livestreams is a spinoff to SML Movies. It airs on Dabhdude's channel. It's premise is Logan, Dabhdude, SML Reviewer, and Flamey Cat discussing SuperMarioLogan and things related to it.

Mama Luigi Adventures

Mama Luigi Adventures is a spinoff of SML starring Mama Luigi created by Zeke. It aired on the Zyoshiman channel, and was cancelled after two episodes.

Animations (Zyoshiman)

Animations (Zyoshiman) Is a spinoff of SML created by Zeke. It aired on the Zyoshiman channel.

Animations (SuperMarioLogan)

Animations (SuperMarioLogan) is a spinoff on Logan's channel.
